There are several things done to minimize ice damming,including-
1. Seal attic floor to reduce leaking warm air
2. Upgrading insulation and ventilation in the attic
3. Adding eave protection
4. Adding electric heated cables
The best solution is( UPGRADING THE ATTIC INSULATION AND VENTILATION TO KEEP THE ATTIC AS COLD AS POSSIBLE)
