Proper maintenance for humidifiers

Using distilled water instead of tap water can limit problems with white dust, as can using demineralization filters or cartridges.
Evaporative and steam vaporizer type humidifiers do not dispel bacteria into the air, making them good choices for some people. Those with small children will want to avoid steam vaporizers to limit the risk of burns.
Any type of humidifier must be cleaned regularly, including at the beginning and end of the season, and a minimum of every three days during the season. All parts should be wiped down and allowed to dry. After cleaning thoroughly, rinse out tanks to remove any traces of the cleaners used.
Keeping the humidity level of the room between 40 percent and 50 percent will limit the growth of mold and mildew.
