This voluntary recall involves Philips Energy Saver, also known as Marathon or Marathon Classic Compact Fluorescent dimmable reflector lamps, models R30, R40 and PAR 38 manufactured between March 2007 and May 2010.

Model numbers are printed on the white plastic area at the base of the lamps.

The affected products also have date codes from March 2007 through May 2010 as follows:

The date code can be found on several different places on the product. It is typically found on the plastic but can also be found on the metal base. The images in this notice show the different locations of the date code on the plastic and metal base.

Hazard Identified

The glue attaching the glass outer envelope or globe to the body of the lamp can fail allowing the glass outer envelope to fall and strike persons and objects below, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.

Philips has received about 700 reports in the United States and 40 reports in Canada of lamps where the glue failed and glass outer envelope fell, and two reports of minor injury and three reports of minor property damage in the United States.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these lamps.
Corrective Action

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lamps and contact Philips to receive instructions on how to receive a free replacement lamp.

Approximately 326,069 units of the affected products were sold at grocery and home centre stores, and professional electrical distributors across Canada.
Time Period Sold

The affected products were distributed from March 2007 through July 2011.
